This time we’re going for a walk in the Ogasawaras!<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

First, let’s take a look at the Ogasawara Maru, the ship that brought us all here!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a very large ship and can accommodate up to about 900 people!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are different grades of sleeping accommodations, ranging from sleeping rooms to hotel-like suites!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ship has an observation deck where you can enjoy the vast Pacific Ocean as much as you want!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is also a restaurant where you can enjoy freshly prepared delicious meals!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have been pushing on toward the Ogasawara Islands for 24 hours!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have arrived at the Ogasawara Islands!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s so hot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just a short walk from the pier, there are many souvenir shops and restaurants!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apparently, there is even talk of building an airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ogasawara Islands are also registered as a World Natural Heritage site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s Ogasawara City Office, the site was recognized for the existence of endemic species found only in the Ogasawara Islands and for the valuable evidence of the evolutionary process that has been preserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I found a small snail on the side of the road. I wondered if this little guy must be one that could only be found here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And this is one of the things I wanted to see in Ogasawara: Pokemon manholes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pokemon manholes are everywhere in Japan, but here in the Ogasawara Islands, there are manholes for Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and Mew! So cute!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were also some limited-edition goods for sale at a nearby store!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And we’ve arrived at the beach! This is Omura Beach, located just a short walk away. There are many fragments of coral on the beach, and every time the waves hit the shore, you can hear a beautiful, crackling sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This beach is called Seihyo Beach and is famous for its coral reefs! Snorkeling and swimming amongst the fish and coral reefs is also great!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

And we came to Kominato Beach! This is a wide bay beach where you can walk from the final bus stop! I’ve heard that good swimmers sometimes swim out of the bay to the next beach!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the beach on the other side of the island, called Sakaiura beach, where the sunken battles from World War II are still intact. The Ogasawara Islands are not far from Iwo Jima, which was a battleground during World War II, and there are several areas that still bear vivid traces of the war. Iwo Jima is famous in Clint Eastwood’s “Letters from Iwo Jima”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ship is called Hinko Maru, and it seems to be home to many fish now. It seems to be free for snorkeling, so why don’t you go there?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
